Re: Conservative government plan massive tax hike on pensions.
Hang on Surface. UPS has been performance -related for 15 years. MDs assertion that he hadn't had a pay rise was accurate, because he was beyond the incremental scale.

As for the left wing teacher stereotype. Teachers teach what they are told to teach. In this case by Michael Gove (not Morgan). The irony also seems lost on you that you're arguing with two teachers on here who are most definitely not left wing. As for valuing them, that means shit if it is only words. As you know, the market values people by what it puts in their pay packet, your value would lead to less of them choosing that pay packet and a few more Teaching Assistants teaching Maths classes.

I seriously have been totally unable to decide who out of Hermit and Surface I hate more to pick a side in this.

Absolutely stumped.

You are building a massive straw man here. I took issue with Mad dog's assertion that teachers had had their pay frozen.

In fact, this was not the case - the current situation you are referring to was only introduced in 2013 and not implemented until last year. You seem to have forgotten to mention that.

Of course I value teachers. I would value them more if they hadn't become left-wingers almost to a man - seeking to indoctrinate their young charges with those values, prissy, self-righteous, sharp-elbowed and moany.

Shin Chan, the good thing about having a brain and not treating political parties like football teams, is that you are free to agree with them on some and disagree with them on others. I didn't vote Conservative this time, and I've been vindicated by this policy. No Conservative party I've ever voted for would raise taxes on individuals like this. This is a New Labour move.

The nhs needs massive reform but no government will do it because all nurses are angels.

Re: Conservative government plan massive tax hike on pensions.
Surface. You're all at sea with the increments.

Firstly they are now performance related, the extra pay is for added performance or extra work. Not a pay rise, but remuneration for work done. In addition, it stops after a few years. It isn't a pay rise, as a pay rise would be received without moving up a grade.

Rios, on the issue of education in this country and how it is now compared to your time in school, think of what has changed. When you were at school, your parents blamed you if you didn't work hard, if the teacher told them you were fucking about, I guess your mum had a pop at you, not the teacher. Furthermore, I suspect that near enough everyone in your class spoke English, didn't eat a packet of donuts on the way to school in the morning, and wasn't up till midnight playing the Xbox. Lastly, teachers weren't encumbered by masses of beaurocracy as they are now. Education is a pawn for successive governments to push their agendas.

One more thing, none of the above is a moan as I'm sure it will be characterised by some. It is what it is. What is a reality though is that with every attack, more people leave, and less people join. You can hate teachers as much as you want, resent their phenomenal pay and conditions, but whatever you think, we need them. They aren't like the extra ticket collector at Plaistow station that we could survive without. The government knows the is a massive shortage, and it knows that it is getting worse, and its response is to make it less likely that people will go into teaching.

The education system here is fucking rubbish, I genuinely feel sorry for anybody who works in it who has an ounce of common sense.

Its like the nhs and many other govermint departments.

Its all managed by template and committee.

Because the people we churn out in middle to senior management have virtually no experience in producing anything or having to be innovative, they rely on bullshit management courses as their mantras (lean shit, sigma shit and prince crap etc) and then can only use these generic tools to do their jobs.

That's why we end up with such shit services. Because our world has been taken over by HR and accountants who have little or no imagination and are risk-averse.

All you tory lovers now pissing your knickers. As if those self serving lying cunts were going to do anything for the working man.

YOU voted for them, so serves you fucking right.

Re: Conservative government plan massive tax hike on pensions.
OK forget teachers then. Despite the fact that increments generally only happen for first 5/6 years of teaching (from m1 to m6). After that ups takes a few years in between increments, if you apply and meet tons of criteria.

What about nurses, army, police, fire etc?

'You're attempting to enforce a simplistic generalisation on a word used in a legal technical sense.'

Er, no. It wasn't me that brought up contracts, it was you and comma/Hermit, I can't remember which, some way into the discussion.

I am using the word 'increment' in accordance with its clear, generally understood definition as written in the dictionary. It's you and others (teachers) who are saying, 'Ah, yes, but, when applied to contract law, it doesn't mean what it means' etc etc etc.

Anybody would think AfM had hit you with his mealy-mouthed twaddle stick.

Re: Conservative government plan massive tax hike on pensions.
I think the trouble with education is, due to it now just being another political football, it doesn't have a fucking clue which way to turn as agendas change more often than the weather.

Get it right out of the political arena and let it get back to what it always did best: teaching kids the basic fundamentals AND (not either/or, AND) how to learn.

A kid can then leave school with diddly-squat by way of formal "certificates", but if they know how to add up, how to read & communicate, that sticking their hand in a pot of boiling water is not such a good thing and it's always their round when we're out for a beer,, then they will have what it takes to grow into whatever career/job they choose.

We end up doing more training than ever. With the trade apprentices its not just site safety its basic common sense.

With the graduates, I'm not sure where to start on here. 99% fucking useless. The amount of training and mentoring they need compared to twenty years ago is staggering.

So glad we have all these "vocational" teachers working their collective bollocks off to educate the young.

That's probably something to do with the absofuckinglutely useless, almost unemployable school and university leavers we get turn up at our companies.

Thanks for hitting your targets.
